What does a web designer do?

The title gets used loosely. Here is what a designer actually does, how it differs from a developer, and why both matter for a site that brings in clients.

Web designer

Plans the structure, creates the visual design, chooses fonts and colours, and makes sure the site feels trustworthy and easy to use. They think about how visitors feel and where they click.

Web developer

Builds the working site: code, forms, speed, mobile behaviour, integrations and hosting setup. They turn the design into something that loads fast and works reliably.

Web design company

Usually covers strategy, design, development, content guidance, testing, launch and ongoing support. Some also handle SEO, photography direction and marketing integrations.
